numen/for use installs climbable tube overlooking the city of linz, austria
DESIGNBOOM_collaborative european design studio numen/for use has designed its sixth and most recent ‘tube’ installation on the roof of the OK centre for contemporary art in linz, austria. identical to the tube in london, the web-like installation is constructed out of synthetic blue ropes and stretches across the entire rooftop, named the ‘voestalpine open space’. at approximately 25 meters above ground level, the structure overlooks the city of linz.

the spacious structure, spanning 42 meters long, 15 meters wide and 9 meters tall, draws comparisons to a scaled up version of a children’s playground for adults. ‘to crawl through the tunnels of tube linz induces a dual awareness of both safety and risk,’ mentions numen/for use, ‘combining a transparent, gentle, woven structure, devoid of any hard angles and surfaces, with unsettling heights/vistas and uncanny spatial sensations.’
