A fully funded fellowship—including a monthly stipend, housing allowance, and complete travel support—is offered to artists working in film, literature, music, and visual arts through the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program.
According to Gallery Online, this prestigious international call invites established artists in film, literature, music, and sound to spend one full year (or six months for film) in Berlin, Germany, where they can focus on artistic development and expand their professional networks. The residency is designed as an unrestricted, research-focused program with no requirement for producing a final work, while still providing the opportunity to present or exhibit artworks in Germany and internationally through daadgalerie and partner institutions.
The selection committee seeks artists with a strong professional track record, significant international engagement, and notable recognition in their field. Participation in major festivals, reputable publications, inclusion in established collections, international awards, and high-profile presentations are considered important criteria.
Unlike residencies that aim at producing a single artwork, the DAAD Program emphasizes creative freedom and artistic exploration, with no obligation to deliver a final project. The primary goal is to provide space for growth, research, networking, and inspiration within Berlin’s dynamic cultural environment.
During their stay, artists are connected to a broad international network of past fellows and Germany’s cultural scene. Through events, exhibitions, concerts, and screenings at daadgalerie and partner institutions, participants gain significant opportunities to present their work.
