The Atelier Austmarka Artist Residency in Norway offers fully funded and partially funded scholarships, accommodation with private rooms, and bright studios designed to support focused artistic work. Situated in the quiet and secluded forests of Finnskogen, this residency provides artists with the opportunity to immerse themselves in silence, tranquility, and deep concentration as they pursue their creative projects.

Facilities

The residency offers simple private rooms, a shared kitchen and bathroom, as well as shared work studios for all participating artists. The program is fully self-governed, meaning artists are responsible for cleaning, cooking, and all daily tasks.

Duration of Residency

  • Standard duration: From 1 to 12 weeks, depending on the artist’s preference.
  • Special 2026 Open Call Duration: From 14 days to 6 weeks (April 26 – June 15, 2026).
    Typically, artists stay between 2 and 5 weeks, but longer stays of up to 3 months may be requested based on individual needs.

Costs

Residency fees fall into three main categories:

  1. Fully Funded Residency:
    Accommodation and studio costs are fully covered.
    The artist must host a public event (such as an exhibition, workshop, or talk) at the end of the residency.
  2. Partially Funded Residency:
    450–600 NOK per night.
    Artists pay a reduced fee and commit to promoting the residency on social media and submitting a written report or documentation after completion.
  3. Non-funded Residency:
    From 910 NOK per night.
    Artists cover the full cost and may focus solely on their personal projects.
  • 25% of the total residency fee must be paid as a non-refundable deposit after acceptance.
  • All travel costs, art materials, health insurance, and daily expenses are the responsibility of the artist.
