Visual Arts CompetitionRoyal Society of British Artists (RBA)

This exhibition is organized by Mall Galleries in London—widely regarded as the principal exhibition venue for major and prestigious British art societies—and is held with the aim of selling selected artworks.

Participation in this competition is open to artists aged 18 and over from all over the world.

Accepted disciplines:
Works in painting, sculpture, drawing, and original prints are accepted (photography is excluded).

Submission requirements:

  • Participants may submit up to six works (one full image of each work, plus up to two optional detail images).
  • Submitted works must not have been previously exhibited in London.
  • The title, medium, dimensions (in centimeters), year of completion, and price of each work are required.
  • The maximum length of the longest side of each work is 2.4 meters.
  • Submitted files must be in JPEG or PNG format, with a maximum file size of 5 MB.

Prizes & Awards:

This competition offers prizes and financial support totaling over €20,000 for selected artists:

  • The Huaicun Zhang Award: £10,000 cash prize for a work of exceptional quality.
  • The de Laszlo Foundation Award: £2,000 cash prize for artists under 35, awarded for the best work created from a live model, plus Commendation Awards of £300 each.
  • The Whistler Award: £3,000 cash prize.
  • The Ben Enwonwu Distinguished Artist Award: £500 cash prize in recognition of a lifetime of artistic achievement.
  • The John Lynn Commemorative Award: £500 cash prize for a young artist.
  • The Ronald Benham Memorial Award: £500 cash prize for a traditional work celebrating nature.

Additional cash prizes include:
The Surgeon’s Prize (£500), Peter Kelly Commemorative Prize (£300), The MONTOOLI Award (£300), The Gordon Hulson Memorial Prize (£250), The Ronald Morgan Memorial Award (£250), Nathan David Award for Sculpture (£150), and the Geoffrey Vivis Memorial Award (£100).

  • The Michael Harding Awards: Art materials worth £500 awarded to two selected artists.
  • The Winsor & Newton Award: Art materials worth £500 for an outstanding painting.
  • The Frinton Frames Award: £200 framing credit.

In addition, selected artists will benefit from non-cash awards, including exhibition of their works at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London, online presentation, and opportunities for art sales and commissioned work.

Entry fees:

  • £20 per artwork
  • £14 per artwork for artists under 35
