Kristinestad artists` residency
Time
The Kristinestad residency is open in the summer season only. The dates for 2024 are 2 - 29 June, with 2 June as arrival day (be sure to book a flight arriving on 1 June) and departure from Kristinestad on the 29th (with a flight on the 30th or later).
Cost
The Kristinestad residency is non-profit. Your residency hosts are working without remuneration. The residency fee of €600 covers accommodation and studio space as well as administration costs. More expensive accommodation options may be available. You will be asked to pay a caution of €200 (repaid at the end of the residency) to cover any damage or loss. You should also calculate with costs for art and craft materials, and costs for firing ceramics, if applicable, as well as travel internationally and within Finland. For food and other necessities, entrance fees etc., €500 is an absolute minimum.
Finance
No grants are available, but those selected will be issued a letter of support for grant applications. We do not have information on grant opportunities.
Deadline
For Summer 2024, applications will be accepted until 31 December.
Logistics
The nearest airport is in Vaasa (2 hrs. away), but for practical reasons, we recommend that you fly to Helsinki or Turku on 31 May, stay overnight and take a long-distance express bus to Kristinestad the following day (6 or 4 hrs. respectively, 10–35 Euro). Alternatively, you may be able to take a night ferry from Stockholm to Turku, and take a direct bus from Turku harbour in the morning. In the post-pandemic situation, frequent schedule changes are likely. We will help you plan your trip.
Application and selection
Projects with relevance to the local context and community will be especially appreciated. We sometimes have a particular focus for the season - but all creative fields are welcome. The selection committee consists of professionals in a variety of disciplines.
Apply by sending us an informal application letter by email. It should include the information mentioned below. NB! We are more interested in what you would like to do than in CVs or artists' statements. If possible, link to documentation of your work online. If you must send an attachment, please limit yourself to two recent and relevant works. If applicable, attach a very short and realistic project plan, including any wishes as to space, equipment, assistance and time frame. Heavy (10 MB+) messages will not be taken into account.
