World Press Photo Contest 2025
The World Press Photo Contest is one of the most prestigious competitions in the field of photojournalism and documentary photography, recognizing and celebrating the power of visual storytelling. Organized annually by the World Press Photo Foundation, the contest brings together photographers from across the globe to showcase impactful, authentic, and compelling narratives that capture the complexities of our world. Through its rigorous judging process, the competition highlights exceptional talent while emphasizing the importance of ethical and accurate visual journalism in shaping public understanding of critical issues.
The 2025 edition of the contest reflects the foundation’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity, with entries evaluated in six global regions: Africa; West, Central, and South Asia; Europe; North and Central America; South America; and Asia Pacific and Oceania. Photographers can submit their work in three categories: Singles, Stories, and Long-Term Projects. By spotlighting both individual moments and comprehensive narratives, the contest aims to capture a holistic view of the events and themes that defined the past year. Each entry undergoes a meticulous judging process by regional and global juries composed of experienced industry professionals.
In addition to providing a platform for professional recognition, the World Press Photo Contest plays a critical role in fostering a deeper connection between audiences and the visual stories that shape global conversations. Winners are not only awarded for their technical expertise but also for their ability to evoke emotion and provoke thought through their work. The competition’s emphasis on regional representation ensures a broad spectrum of perspectives, encouraging greater cultural understanding and appreciation.
